Obituary

Anna Lee Devorkin, nee Groll, 95, beloved wife and best friend of Raymond for 71 wonderful years; loving mother of Michael (the late Jo-Ann) and Linda (Dennis) Christensen; cherished grandmother of Sarah Devorkin and Carly (Jon) Daulton; devoted daughter of the late Charlotte and Harry Groll; dear sister of the late Marilyn (Alan I. “Irv”) Boyer and the late Leonore Steinberg; caring sister-in-law of Irwin Steinberg; treasured aunt, cousin and friend, her warm smile, sharp wit, and great dancing touched the lives of many. We will all miss her. Graveside service on Noon, December 11 at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jo-Ann Townsend Endowed Fund, Bank Street College School for Children, 610 W. 112th Street, NY, NY. I loved being at my cousin's house. We always had fun, whether playing baseball, or dressing up in 'adult' clothing. We were cross dressing long before the term was widely used. Luckily, Anna Lee was tolerant of our fashion statements! steven steinberg

Going and visiting my Aunt Anna Lee and Uncle Ray, and my cousins in Skokie meant a lot to me. I was connected and loved and always welcome. We played catch in the backyard,
Anna Lee cooked up dinner, and Ray was good on the barbeque. Often we went to play baseball on a ‘real’ field. The Kids vs. the Adults. Somehow, the kids would always be ahead, and then the ‘adults’ would hit a series of towering home runs to win the game.
They never let us win. Never. They would let us come close however. I think Anna Lee, Marilyn, and Lee had some athletic skills too. Tennis, golf, and of course tobogganing at
George Williams College Camp in Wisconsin.
